Solgar® Milk Thistle is one of Solgar’s premium botanical extracts containing the natural herb Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum).  

Milk thistle or Silybum marianum is a European plant. It grows up to two metres in height and has large, purple flowers, many prickly spines and white-veined leaves. Historically, these milky veins were said to be the Virgin Mary’s milk that had fallen onto the leaves, and this is the origin of another common name, St. Mary’s thistle.  

The group of active compounds found in milk thistle are collectively called silymarin. A typical milk thistle extract will contain 60%-80% silymarin and this is commonly found in milk thistle’s seeds.  

Milk thistle may play a role in maintaining balanced cholesterol levels.
